Catch up on the conversation about practical ways for businesses to reach net zero, from renewable energy to how SMEs can embrace sustainability.
On 21 June, the SSE Energy Solutions team enjoyed a welcome opportunity to meet energy users at The Big Zero Show and discuss net zero solutions. Several hundred people headed to the Coventry Building Society Arena to share ideas and see how their businesses could accelerate the drive to cut carbon emissions.
If you couldn’t come to the show and visit us, you can read about our net zero solutions including electric vehicle charging, smart meters and green energy, and watch our speaking sessions on demand.
Can renewable energy end our dependence on fossil fuels?
The Big Zero Show attendees were clearly enthusiastic about getting to net zero, but we all know there’s a long way to go. Our Head of Strategy, Innovation and Sustainability, Lamé Verre, gave an overview of some of the projects that the energy industry – and SSE in particular – is working on to help the UK and its businesses take action on climate change. Cost-effective solutions, especially for small to medium companies, play a key part in this.

24/7 green: transparency in renewable energy buying
The audience gained an insight into future low-carbon procurement from our Strategic Account Manager – Major Bids. Gary Stalker described SSE Energy Solutions as a bridge between renewable assets – SSE is the UK and Ireland’s largest renewable generator – and end users, like corporations looking to become decarbonisation leaders. He ran through how customers’ choices could benefit from greater transparency and closer ties between when and where energy is generated and used.

Behind the meter solar and storage
Installing solar PV can guarantee your business is running on renewable electricity and contributing to a greener future, by generating and storing your own power. Our Senior Solar Development Manager, Helen Taylour, outlined where to get started. Helen also explained how businesses can manage energy costs over the longer term with the right power purchase agreement (PPA) and why working with a partner can make a solar project easier and reduce risk.

How SMEs can hold an advantage when it comes to reaching net zero
For Richard Hagan, founder and Managing Director of Crystal Doors, agreeing an SSE Energy Solutions green energy plan through Zellar sustainability platform was the latest step on a journey to net zero. At The Big Zero Show, Richard talked about the importance of smaller businesses in getting the UK to net zero, and shared advice from his experience of turning his company into a sustainable one – alongside a personal transition from driving a 4x4 to eating vegan.
