Celebrating 10 years of verified renewable electricity and taking traceable energy sourcing further
From SSE Green as standard to Corporate Power Purchase Agreements, we’re building on a decade of trusted renewable electricity solutions to help businesses make more sustainable choices and source energy with confidence.
Businesses are under growing pressure to demonstrate credible progress on sustainability. That's why transparent renewable electricity sourcing matters more than ever.
This year, SSE Energy Solutions is celebrating 10 years of independent verification for SSE Green electricity. The milestone reflects our long-standing commitment to providing renewable electricity products backed by robust processes, Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGOs) and independent assurance.
For organisations looking to strengthen carbon reporting and build confidence with stakeholders, independently verified renewable electricity provides reassurance that renewable claims are supported by clear evidence and external review.
For larger energy users that want an even closer connection to renewable generation, Corporate Power Purchase Agreements (CPPAs) can offer a more traceable approach to sourcing renewable electricity.
A decade of trusted assurance
SSE Green electricity has been independently verified every year since 2017. That verification helps give customers confidence in the renewable credentials of the electricity products they choose.
SE Advisory Services, Schneider Electric’s global consulting practice, has independently verified the renewable electricity claims for SSE Green, SSE Next Generation and SSE Corporate Power Purchase Agreements for the Fuel Mix Disclosure period 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026. Businesses on our fixed plans get SSE Green as standard, matching annual consumption to SSE wind, hydro and solar generation. Our renewable electricity products are backed by REGOs. This can help eligible customers report zero market-based Scope 2 emissions for electricity consumption in line with the GHG Protocol. Independent verification provides an additional layer of assurance by reviewing the processes and data behind those claims.
Reaching 10 years of independently verified renewable electricity sourcing is a significant milestone. Our wider energy solutions can help businesses build on that commitment and take the next practical steps on their sustainability journey. Businesses are operating in a climate where energy costs remain high and volatile, while many face challenges accessing the grid electricity they need to grow. To help organisations navigate this environment, we create, build and operate low-carbon solutions that are resilient, reliable and affordable. Whether it's generating power on-site, harnessing waste heat or improving energy efficiency, we're helping businesses reduce emissions, manage costs and strengthen resilience, bringing them closer to their long-term goals.
At SSE Energy Solutions, we know green energy is important to our customers, but in challenging times businesses need to balance sustainability ambitions with cost certainty. As the UK's clean energy champion, we're committed to offering that balance through competitive fixed plans that include renewable electricity as standard. Being independently verified for the tenth year in a row demonstrates our long-standing commitment to delivering on that promise, helping customers source renewable electricity with confidence.
SE Advisory Services helps organisations transition through changing landscapes, turning ambition on energy, resilience and decarbonisation into measurable impact. This achievement marks 10 years of working together to verify SSE Energy Solutions’ renewable electricity claims, giving customers confidence in the green energy they buy as businesses take more control of their supply. The reporting rules are moving in the same direction: under the Science Based Targets initiative new Corporate Net-Zero Standard, companies will need to show not just that their electricity is low-carbon but where it comes from and what sits behind the claim.
Creating a stronger link to renewable generation
A CPPA is designed for large energy users that want greater visibility over where their matched renewable electricity comes from.
Used alongside a flexible electricity supply contract, a CPPA can connect electricity procurement more closely to renewable generation from UK wind and solar assets owned or co-owned by SSE.
That stronger link between consumption and generation can help organisations enhance sustainability reporting, build stakeholder confidence and tell a clearer story about how renewable electricity is being sourced.
For organisations using 10 GWh or more of electricity each year, CPPAs can also provide greater certainty over a proportion of electricity costs through agreed pricing arrangements. Contracts are available with flexible terms, typically ranging from two to 10 years using existing generation assets, or 15 years for new build renewable assets, and can be delivered through an existing SSE supply relationship.
Finding the right approach for your business
Every organisation's energy strategy is different. That's why SSE offers a range of CPPA options designed to support different levels of traceability, flexibility and scale.
• Named Asset CPPA: creates a named connection to a specific renewable asset for maximum traceability typically on a pay as produced basis.
• Shaped and Balanced CPPA: combines traceability with more predictable electricity volumes for simpler management in supply contracts.
• Portfolio PPA: supports diversified renewable sourcing with flexibility and scalability with REGOs guaranteed from SSE’s renewable assets.
Whichever option a business chooses, the objective remains the same: to make renewable electricity procurement more transparent, more credible and better aligned with long-term decarbonisation goals.
Backed by SSE's renewable expertise
With SSE Energy Solutions, customers benefit from a single commercial relationship that brings together renewable generation and energy supply.
This approach can provide access to SSE-owned renewable assets, simplified contracting and support from an experienced energy partner that understands the practical needs of business energy users.
As the energy market continues to evolve, traceability is becoming increasingly important. CPPAs can help organisations demonstrate a more transparent approach to renewable electricity sourcing while supporting the transition to a cleaner, more secure energy system.
