SSE Energy Solutions and Surrey County Cricket Club had a ball at Sustainabili-T20 event

Sustainabili-T20 was launched last year, to engage and educate fans about the importance of reducing carbon emissions. Following its positive reception, the event returned this year with even more interactive experiences, reinforcing the message that everyone can play a part in creating a greener future.

Encouraging fans to step up to the crease

At this year’s event, there were a wide range of activities for fans, including an engaging sustainability quiz that put their knowledge to the test. There were also energy bikes that displayed how much pedal power was needed to charge phones and boil kettles, giving fans a lesson in energy consumption and the impact of everyday actions on the planet. With a BatFast simulator, fans could see how much energy their efforts represented. The fan who hit the ball the furthest distance won two tickets to the England Vs India Test Match, adding a spin to raising sustainability awareness.

Cricket fans even got to watch a double header of matches, as Surrey Women’s and Men’s teams took on the Essex Eagles.

Teaming up to bat for sustainability

SSE Energy Solutions and Surrey County Cricket Club partnered to drive sustainability awareness within the cricket fanbase. The aim of the event was to engage and educate fans, encouraging them to get involved in the global sustainability movement. Together, we want to inspire positive change within the cricket community and beyond.

As partners, we’re also supporting sustainability improvements to the cricket grounds. To start, we’re completing a comprehensive energy audit to analyse consumption and identify efficiencies. Next, we’re planning to look into renewable energy solutions, such as extending the existing solar assets at The Kia Oval.
