This June, the Decarbonisation Summit will present an array of panel discussions featuring high level industry leaders and sustainable forward thinkers. The two day summit will cover essential topics which will play a vital role in the nation’s decarbonisation strategy.

The panel topics for this year’s Decarbonisation Summit are as follows:

Day 1 (7th June):

  • Empowering SMEs Towards Net Zero: Stimulating sustainable supply chains and economic growth in Britain’s small businesses.
  • Green Investment in Sustainable Cities: How smart money can empower decarbonisation in cities.
  • The Power of Retrofitting: Future proofing our existing buildings and homes. Include some mention of smart solutions for smart cities.
  • Mayors Leadership Group: How can city mayors collaborate to accelerate net zero across transport, energy and heat?
  • Active Travel Britain: Exploring alternative routes towards the decarbonisation of Britain’s roads.

Day 2 (8th June):

  • EV UK: Accelerating investment in UK e-mobility to ensure it is fair and accessible for all.
  • Maximising Renewable Technology at a Local Level: Harnessing the power of distributed energy solutions and balancing technology.
  • District Heating: How do we widen the role of heat networks to power cities in the UK towards net zero?
  • Jobs, Skills and Opportunities in Sustainability: Upskilling our workforce to power the future green economy and to ensure a just and fair transition.
  • Eating Emissions: How can the plant-based food and the agricultural sectors work together to decarbonise our diets?

We’re really excited to be bringing the Decarbonisation Summit to Manchester in June where we hope to facilitate and fast-track ground-breaking collaboration between the public and private sector on net zero. We have some exciting panel sessions lined up which we hope will stimulate real debate and real progress. SSE Group is investing some £7m a day in low carbon infrastructure and my team in distributed energy is committed to helping people and places with practical solutions to get to net zero.

The Decarbonisation Summit 2022 is focussed on forging alliances and agreements which will lead to tangible progression on the UK’s journey towards net-zero.

The plans and partnerships will be agreed upon via our pioneering leadership group initiatives. The Commercial Leadership Group is a forum of major decision makers in the tech, engineering, transport, and infrastructure industries. These industries will cross-collaborate with the public sector through our Mayor’s Leadership Group and will create the platform through which we can initiate real change across the board.

This year’s Decarbonisation Summit sees us take the summit to a new level. We’ve set up a Leadership Group to start work on actionable outcomes, ahead of the summit itself, to create a platform that really delivers on decarbonisation.
