Best wishes for the festive season and here’s to an exciting year ahead
At this time of year, it’s always a good opportunity to reflect on what has gone past and look ahead to what’s in front of us.
Given all the restrictions placed upon our working and personal lives by Covid-19 I was delighted by all the activity we in SSE Distributed Energy were able to get through to get projects off the ground.
The fact we had COP26 come to Scotland gave us a great opportunity to parade our credentials as the solution providers to those places and people looking to decarbonise.
Being interviewed live on Sky News as part of our Road to Renewables pre-COP roadshow was a nerve-racking experience; but was a reflection of the great story we have to tell when it comes to decarbonising transport. We held a very successful inaugural Decarbonisation Summit in Glasgow during COP26 and I’m excited by the prospect of bringing the event to Manchester in June 2022.
I’m expecting 2022 to be a big year for us in terms of the projects we are bringing to the market to support the uptake on electric vehicles. These include rolling out EV ‘Community Hubs’ which will provide an ambitious and strategic network of charging stations for fleets and individual users.
Likewise, when it comes to decarbonising heat – another key part of solving the net zero jigsaw – we will look to bring further innovation to the market, work with cities across the nation and we also welcome the regulation coming into the sector in 2022.
The third component of what we do in distributed energy is our expanding portfolio of battery storage and solar technology – both vital technologies when it comes to balancing the Grid as well as SSE’s diverse energy portfolio. We have plenty of momentum and investment for battery and solar and we now have a pipeline of opportunities north of 1GW for both technologies.
As part of SSE Group we have a great net zero story to tell but what excites me most about what our distributed energy team do is the fact it puts the customer front and centre of that story.
Our solutions, which embrace ‘whole system thinking,’ give you and your organisation the tools and solutions to map your own pathway to net zero. That’s thanks to the insight we can provider for customers via our smart platforms, for whom we can even now deliver flexible trading through SSE Enhance.
So, if cutting your carbon and your costs is on your To Do List for 2022 then do get in touch with us – we want to help as many people as we can on their pathway to decarbonisation.
