Encouraging more businesses to make the switch to green energy is vital if the UK is to meet its target of net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

With the countdown on to the COP26 climate conference in Glasgow in November, we’ve launched a new and simplified Corporate Power Purchase Agreement which can help thousands of businesses in Britain significantly reduce their carbon emissions. SSE is a Principal Partner of COP26.

The new product is the latest in a line of green offerings released by SSE Energy Solutions to help businesses access a greater level of traceability and to reduce their carbon footprint, including solutions to help customers transition to electric vehicles, install on-site renewable generation, and improve the efficiency of their buildings.

Access to CPPAs will enable customers to buy 100% renewable energy direct from wind farms operated by our sister company SSE Renewables. Making green energy more accessible to large businesses will play a critical role in ensuring that the UK government’s target of net zero carbon emissions by 2050 is achieved.

Nikki Flanders, Managing Director of Energy Customer Solutions at SSE, said: “Businesses are increasingly looking at ways to reduce their carbon footprint and we are always exploring ways we can help our customers to do this. Interest in CPPAs is high, but many companies are put off by the level of complexity involved in most agreements. We have cracked this by developing a really simple offer that can be tailored according to a business’ needs. Our aim is to make CPPA agreements accessible to many more businesses.”

SSE Renewables is the largest generator of renewable electricity across the UK and Ireland, operating 42 wind farms and 52 hydro power stations. The company also has a further 8GW of onshore and offshore wind power in the pipeline, providing it with a large asset base of current and future potential renewable generation sites to sustainably power CPPAs.

Nikki said: “Ultimately, we want as many of our customers as possible to be able to take advantage of the benefits CPPAs can offer. Our CPPAs provide businesses with full traceability and a tangible relationship with a wind farm. We know this is really important for companies as it is something they can share with their investors, employees and customers. Every company wants to play their part in combatting climate change and to help meet the UK’s target of net zero carbon emissions by 2050; we are doing all we can to assist them.”

SSE Energy Solutions already supplies upwards of 60,000 customers with 100% renewable electricity. Over the past five years, this has resulted in 6 million tonnes less carbon in the atmosphere compared to the equivalent power generated by fossil fuels.

Business and public sector customers looking to find out more about our CPPA offering should get in touch with their account manager or contact us.

All of SSE Energy Solutions’ renewable electricity is sourced from wind and hydro assets wholly or partly owned by SSE Renewables, our sister company in the SSE Group. With SSE’s CPPA product, you’ll continue to get your electricity through the national grid as normal, and we’ll match your consumption to the agreed output from a specific SSE Renewables wind farm. Choice of wind farm subject to availability.
